Electronic Application Checklist
Welcome to the electronic application introduction and checklist page. We use a self-managed approach to application submission. This will assure more reliable handling and more rapid consideration of your application. To submit your self-managed application, complete the following steps.
If you are an international student, please use the international student checklist rather than this one.
- Verify the deadlines for applying to your intended program by checking your intended program's web site. Deadlines vary by department. Please contact the program directly. Contact information can be found on the Degree Programs page.
- Complete and submit your electronic application. Click here to apply. You will be asked to provide a valid credit card (Discover, Mastercard, or Visa) for payment of the electronic application fee ($75) when you submit your application.
- Compile the following documents, along with any other materials required by your program:
- Request an official transcript (with the embossed and/or colored seal) from each college/university you attended.
- Ask your registrars to send the transcript to:
University of Connecticut
Graduate School, Unit 1152
438 Whitney Road Extension
Storrs, CT 06269-1152
- Please upload an unofficial transcript into the application system.
- Your application will not be considered until all official transcripts are received.
- Failure to submit transcripts from all educational institutions, regardless of whether or not a degree was received, may be grounds for cancellation of admission.
- Transcripts become the property of the University.
- The most common reason for delayed consideration of applications is missing or unofficial transcripts. Be sure to include all of your transcripts with your application.
- Unofficial, certified, or notarized copies are not acceptable.
- If you attended an international university and have one set of original documents or diploma, you can mail them to the Graduate School and we will make a copy and return the original document(s) to you. Include a request to return the documents and provide a mailing address. If you submitted these documents when applying for admission to a university in the US which you currently attend, we will accept copies from the registrar or graduate school if they certify that these documents from your prior university were made from the originals.
- Compose and upload your Personal Statement of Purpose.
- This document should tell your program's admissions committee all you would like to bring out in a personal interview.
- Include your reasons for undertaking graduate work, your ultimate plans, and how you happened to select the field in which you hope to concentrate. Details about your preparation, your strengths and weaknesses as a student, any academic honors, scholarships, or fellowships you have received, will all be helpful.
- You also should consult any website(s) maintained by the graduate program to which you applying; these often list additional dimensions that are of particular interest to that program (e.g., your choice of graduate advisor and a rationale for it).
- The committee wants to know those things about you that cannot be expressed quantitatively.
- All domestic applicants must complete the Residence Affidavit for in-state tuition status. Without this document you cannot qualify for in-state tuition rates. If you are not a Connecticut resident please check the appropriate box and upload.
- International Students must complete the Financial Declaration. This is part of the visa processing requirements
- Check with your intended program for any additional required materials and enclose those as well.
- Request that your standardized test scores be submitted to UConn if your program requires them.
